"Life"

“In school, you are taught a lesson; in life you are given a test that teaches you a lesson.”  This quote stated by Tom Bodett is essential and incredibly lucid; it gives a brief definition of how I think life is and how it is always going to reside, no matter what kind of person you are.  It all depends on how you respond to certain situations. Life alone is complex; it has made me a very cautious individual. I’ve had an unusual past, a sensitive present and look forward to an idealistic future.

My name is Ashley Nevenka Brankovic.  I am both American and European, which is where the extraordinary names come from.  Recently I’ve turned 18 years of age beginning from day one on March 7, 1992.  I currently live in Mekoryuk, Alaska and attend Nuniwarmiut High School.  My life so far has been a unique lengthy journey. It all begins with my wonderful family.  My father is Serbian and my mother is Cup’ig Alaskan Native. I also have an older brother named Allen, and two pets: an adorable dog named Ebony and a rotten kitten, named Kiki.  Throughout my childhood, I’ve traveled and lived in many diverse areas, my parents’ ethnicity is my excuse.

I am a person who has developed from my personal past and will move towards a buoyant future, which comes from the learning of my knowledgeable present life.  In my prospective, existence resembles school.  They are both comparable in many ways.  In school, teachers test you, and in life, you are tested to grow into a person you want to pursue knowing from the experience to put off certain things from taking place.  I’ve had a rough time dealing with such tragedy of constantly moving back and forth from country to country and state to state.  The things that occur today happen for a particular reason. The way I responded towards my journey of moving has promoted me to become a distinctive person that will further progress on for the rest of my living days.

Just remember, what a person decides in life and how they respond to it can induce a major impact on the kind of person they want existing.

Geez, it's been quite a while since I've last written in my blog. I've just been busy with school trying to catch up on work that is NOT late :) Things for me lately are perfectly decent. Not any more than that. My mother had just left this afternoon, poor me, I'm going to miss her a lot. In fact, I already do. You can call me "Mamma's Girl." School is almost, so this will be a short part of my writing for today.

Thoughts of a Deaf Child (Interpretation) By: Ashley B!

Thoughts of a Deaf Child
By: Stephen J. Bellitz

My family knew that I was deaf
When I was only three, and since then fifteen years ago
Have never signed to me.
I know when I'm around the house,
I try and use my voice,
It makes them feel more comfortable;
For me, I have no choice.
I try, communicate their way-
Uncomfortable for me.
My parents wouldn't learn sign
Ashamed or apathy?
I never cared about the sound of radios and bands;
What hurts me most is, I never heard
My parents' signing hands.

Interpretation:

The young boy, Stephen didn’t have the ability to hear starting at the age of three, and is now eighteen years old.  He grew up with the physical inability to hear, and his family has never tried to correspond with him.  His hearing parents did not want to learn sign language to communicate with their deaf child, even though sign language is his primary means of communication. For them, it was hard enough having a deaf child.  A majority of deaf people do not speak because they are afraid of how they will sound, although the little boy attempted to converse with them while he was at his home.  He felt that he had to speak, just to please them, even if it was difficult for him and it made him uncomfortable.  He “never cared about the sound of radios and bands” because he could not hear, he could only feel the beat of the music.  His parents did not want to learn to sign, so he questioned himself, “what is my parents’ excuse to refuse sign language?”  He wondered if it was overwhelming for them or whether they were humiliated with that fact.

The result of this communication gap harmed his familial relations, so it hurt him in many ways.  The boy grew up with sheer madness and neglect and has never connected with his parents.  His parents should have accepted the fact of his hearing disability and should have given him permission to be who he really is: anything but silent.  This real-life, unpleasant incident made a major impact upon him, and now he is a person that is unaware of his individuality.

A Pet Snake!

This week I became a T.A. (Teacher's Aid) for Eliza.  So I'm working to with the preschoolers, they give us a hard time, but we manage to deal with them, i mean their just kids with little brains after all :)
Anyways, I'm searching online to adopt a pet snake, but I'm not very sure if my mother would want that, because we already have a dog (Ebony) and a cat (KiKi). But I've always dreamed of owning a snake, they're like the best kinds of reptiles in the world! I can't wait until I get one!

Today is Friday, my weekend in this crap hole.
I actually had a great time yesterday. I went out and hung out with friends.
And I went for a long snow machine ride with one of my friends. I was having quite a time :)
Now I'm back with one of my great friends named Betty. She is a great person and always seems like she's there for me, like no matter what. She's a caring person. I'm not very sure what happened to us this winter. We just stopped hanging out. But now, it's back to the way it was. It's great! And OMG, Rosa Posa is getting huge! (Baby daughter of my good friend Betty) She is soo friggen adorable! She's growing up pretty quickly and she's starting to communicate more with people! It's kind odd to me to see something soo young growing up, becoming a different being.

But anyways, it's almost time for lunch so I better get going. I'll continue later.
 I sent much love to my family out there!

A Short Story About Racism

The white man said, "Colored people are not allowed here." The black man turned around and stood up. He then said: "Listen sir.... when I was born I was BLACK, " "When I grew up I was BLACK, " "When I'm sick I'm BLACK, " "When I go in the sun I'm BLACK, " "When I'm cold I'm BLACK, " "When I die I'll be BLACK."

"But you sir." "When you're born you're pink, " "When you grow up you're white, " "When you're sick, you're green, " "When you go in the sun you turn red, " "When you're cold you turn blue, " "And when you die you turn purple." "And you have the nerve to call me colored?" The black man then sat back down and the white man walked away.

::::::::~~~~~~Very Clever, isn't it? ~~~~~~::::::::

Okay, today is like one of the laziest most tired days of my life (im exaggerating)
but seriously, my teacher had to wake me up like 3 times!
I feel like a bad role model for the students of my school
because im the effing President!
I can't seem to get over it.

 Anyhoo, things for me have been below decent.
I'm having guy problems once again.
This is the reason why I didn't want to be in a relationship.
I hate relationships!
&
~I hate Guys~
But can't live without them =]

I guess I better get back to working on my essay.
